ARCHITECT OF THE NOISE: DJ BLOK AND THE COVEN

The Lineage of the Beat

In the South Bay, legends aren’t born; they’re forged in the smoke of the underground. For Brandon, better known as DJ Blok (@djblokbeats), the decks are a family inheritance. With 20 years behind the glass, Brandon’s roots run deep into the soil of the LA Disco Scene—a pioneer era helmed by his father.

But while his father mastered the groove, Brandon found his edge in the friction. Inspired by his cousin’s scratch-battling, he took those technical combat skills and channeled them into something darker, sleeker, and more immersive.

The Ritual: Thursdays at The Blind Donkey

Every Thursday at 10:00 PM, the atmosphere in Long Beach shifts. The Coven takes over The Blind Donkey (@theblinddonkeylbc), and it isn’t your standard club night. This is a sensory hijack.

“It’s different because we strive to make everyone have a good time…and bring people closer. It’s always a safe place,” says Brandon.

It’s not just about what you hear; it’s about the total frequency. Brandon syncs haunting visuals to his sets, creating a cinematic backdrop for the evening’s high-voltage energy. The night features the metallic grace of Venus Trjegul (@venustrjegul) as the resident go-go dancer, alongside curated local vendors like Plenty of Teeth (@plentyofteeeth).

Safe Haven for the Unsleeping

The Coven at The Blind Donkey has become the primary heartbeat for the goth and alternative scene in Long Beach and the surrounding South Bay. It’s a space built on radical acceptance—a safe way to meet the misfits, the artisans, and the night-dwellers.

The staff is friendly, the drinks are cold, and the entry is free. No cover. No excuses.
